What do you think about when you hear the word: Pentecost? Is it a good connotation or a bad one?
As I was sitting in church this morning, God kept revealing to me that there’s a new beginning for Draganesti-Olt. The sermon this morning was about Pentecost, which means 50 days/new beginning, and I couldn’t help but eat up this sermon. This was good stuff! I want to chew and meditate on it all day and night long!
Pentecost is exactly 50 days after Passover and is something very highly celebrated in the Jewish culture. My pastor went on to explain how Passover almost 2000 years ago marked something “new.” Do you realize that Jesus died on the Passover 2000 years ago? Jesus had the Lord’s Supper the night before NOT in the temple, but in a basic simple house. At the Lord’s Supper, He had told His disciples to stay until Pentecost. They weren’t supposed to leave for 50 days. Can you imagine? Your best friend is tortured to death in the holy city and you aren’t supposed to leave? I would have needed to escape and just breathe. I can only imagine how painful those 50 days were. You were told something by someone who died, but let’s not forget that Jesus rose again on that 3rd day.
This is hard to understand. So, Jesus died but rose again. The grave couldn’t hold him down, but he wasn’t human, well not only human, at least. The disciples must have known something big was coming for them, and that’s why they stayed in Jerusalem for 47 more days after this occurrence. And then, something HUGE happened! Ta-da! Pentecost: Holy tongues of fire speaking all of these languages that none of them spoke before. How this happens?! The Spirit…that’s my best explanation. The Spirit falls upon those who love Him and choose to follow Him.
This was something significant! No one had seen anything like this before. The Angel of the Lord was present before, but it wasn’t the same thing.
I say all of that, to say this: We can have The Spirit and can walk in authority and in same Spirit that the disciples and followers received on Pentecost. There are new beginnings happening all over this world! God is moving in ways that we can’t begin to understand, because He’s God and we don’t think the same ways. Draganesti-Olt is getting hit hard by the Spirit of the Lord. There are radically changed followers walking up and down those streets day and night asking for God’s presence to fall and guess what?! It’s happening! People are starting to see God’s love and press into what He has for them!
So, my question is this: Where does God want to start a new beginning in your life?
P.S. Today is Pentecost Sunday…
