By now, I believe you all know that I was here on the World Race 4 1/2 years ago.  After 5 months of being in different countries with different ministries, God put me in Draganesti-Olt, Romania for my month 6.  Leading up to Romania, I had 3 months of teaching English and I was tired of teaching English. After reading the profile for Hope Church, I was so excited as I wanted to do street evangelism and tell people about Christ, who had never heard of Him.

Well, I was asked to teach English to a crowd of people and was told that it was going to be 1-on-1.  I was so angry.  I continually was asking God, “Why do you want me to teach English? I do not like teaching English…I want to be on the streets and do the hands-on ministry where I could potentially see someone come to Christ.”  Regardless, I did teach English that month and what happened, I don’t really know how to explain.

Some English Students from February 2012  Sorin, the man who came to Christ through English class

The Holy Spirit convicted my heart to teach English right out of the Bible and to finish our English class in prayer time, in which the prayers were typed out.  I never knew how much impact this basic thing would do. I didn’t realize that I had made an effect in anyone’s life, but through the Spirit and God’s conviction for me to teach English through the Bible, one man came to Christ.  His name is Sorin.  Today, Sorin is learning how to become a missionary and has a desire to go to India to reach the people there.

Wow!  I have part of this, except for listening and being obedient.  Did I want to do this? Nope.  Haha.  However, God wanted me to.  He wanted me to share Christ with Sorin and now Sorin is sharing Christ with others.  He is discipling others and wanting them to know Christ.  Thank you Jesus for this story!

Some of you have asked me why am I teaching English in the school or on Saturday mornings to children and a group of youth.  This is the exact reason why.  I know that God has brought an older man back to Him through my obedience. If an older man, who was alive during Communism can receive Christ, so can these youth that have no aspect of what Communism even was (as it ended in 1989).

I know that these youth can receive Christ and become little passionate Jesus followers.  I know that God can open massive doors through English class and club and guess what?! HE already is!  The number of relationships that God has brought me through English class and club is incredible.  Parents trust me more now that I have been with their children only once a week for 12 weeks or so.

I never ever felt like I was qualified to teach English.  But God has used it and I actually now enjoy teaching, because it brings me into deeper relationship with so many people and it’s an opportunity to share Christ.

AMEN!  Thank you Jesus for your faithfulness and compassionate heart!

  1. Praise God for Sorin! I’m also praising God for your faithfulness to Him and for your obedience. Praying for these children who you’re developing relationships with, and in turn, their families as well 🙂
